FAQs

Who can call ReproHH?

We cannot take calls from patients.

We will take calls from U.S.-based health professionals such as physicians, nurses, advanced practice clinicians, pharmacists, midwives, dentists, and other licensed medical professionals.

Doulas and community health workers are also welcome to call.

Who will providers speak to?

Calls are initially answered by a non-clinical triage coordinator who will transfer the provider to a UCSF clinician with expertise in sexual and reproductive health.

Clinicians who answer calls work in diverse practice settings including community-based primary care, correctional care, labor and delivery, urgent care and emergency settings, adolescent and pediatric clinics, Title X-funded programs, academic centers, freestanding abortion clinics, and telemedicine.

What topics can providers call about?

Providers can call with any clinical questions related to full-spectrum reproductive and sexual health.

If we cannot answer a provider’s question, we will direct the provider to someone who can.

Does calling ReproHH count as a medical consultation?

No, it does not. ReproHH provides clinical information on a peer-to-peer basis, not medical consultations or advice. No patient-identifying information or personal health information (PHI) can be exchanged during calls and we do not prescribe medication or offer direct medical services.

Can ReproHH provide referrals?

No, this project does not offer direct referrals to care. We will direct callers to alternate social services, as indicated.

What about the privacy and security of my information and my patients?

We report general project data for funders, including the number of calls, topics, average call length, and time to call pickup. No specific call details or personal information are collected.

Callers will be asked some general, non-identifiable questions about the populations you serve and questions about user experience to help us improve our service.

You may choose to remain anonymous.

Licensed California medical providers may provide contact information, such as phone number and email, to the non-clinical triage coordinator for additional training opportunities.

We do not accept, solicit, or track any identifiable information about patients.

We accept calls from blocked/restricted numbers and VOIP systems. Calls are not recorded. No metadata is recorded including IP addresses or phone numbers.

Can I submit my clinical question electronically or over text message, rather than calling to speak with someone over the phone?

Currently, we only receive inquiries over the phone.

Can I record the phone call or receive a written summary of the information ReproHH provides?

ReproHH does not consent to the recording of calls nor does ReproHH provide a written summary of information provided during phone calls. Information provided by ReproHH is for educational purposes only.
